Finger Spools are a key utility item for scuba diving and are popular in many a BCD pocket because spools are typically much more compact than a scuba diving reel.  A finger spool is most typically used in association with a surface marker buoy (SMB) but can assist in laying guidelines. Finger spools have a plethora of uses, including for the author, the ability to send their buoyant camera housing back up to it's maximum depth of only 10m.

Finger Spools differ from Reels and Guidereels in that they don't contain any winding mechanism and require more dexterity to retrieve than a reel.
