    SSI Open Water Dive Course

    SSI Open Water Diver Course

You are about to embark on one of the greatest adventures of your life. Becoming a scuba diver marks the first step in a journey that will forever change the way you experience the world. Few of us will become astronauts and explore outer space. But you can explore and experience the wonder of feeling weightless, interact with incredible marine life and discover wrecks only open to those who become divers.

The Open Water Diver course consists of three main phases

    About the Course

    • Learn in small groups, with a maximum of 4 students to 1 instructor.
    • No time pressure, we provide ample time for practice and fine-tuning of skills.
    • Shorter days make for a more relaxed environment.
    • Snacks between dives provided.
    • Group discounts available, please contact our store for more information.
    • Minimum age to participate in full course 15 years old. Scuba activities for younger children are also available, please contact our store for more information.

You will need to demonstrate a certain standard of physical fitness and water skills that are necessary for your diving ability. You will be asked to fill out a Training Record with your medical history. There are questions related specifically to medical conditions that could possibly affect your diving, and a physical exam may be required if your medical statement includes limitations. Strong swimming skills are not vital, but comfort and the ability to swim reasonably in deep water are. Your SSI Dive Professional will conduct a water skills evaluation to make sure you can have a confident and comfortable diving experience. Reasonable water skills and conditioning, along with the mastery of your Total Diving System that you will attain during your course, are the keys to a future of enjoyable diving.

Certified SSI Open Water Divers can dive with an equally or more qualified buddy in environments equivalent to their training and to a maximum depth of 18m. Students younger than 15 years old will be certified as an SSI Junior Open Water Diver and must dive under the direct supervision of a dive professional or with a certified adult in environments equivalent to their training.
